One of my all-time favorite quotes is from the book
Blue Shoe by Anne Lamott:

“You should go only as fast

as the slowest part of you can go.”

In a culture that insists we go faster

than we were probably meant to,
pain requires
we slow
down.

Today pain is making that request of me…it says,
“Leslie, go slow.”
So I am.

Over the years I’ve learned to accept
it when I have to slow down.
I’ve even learned to enjoy it.

There are all sorts of things to discover,
things I usually rush by.

Maybe today, for whatever reasons, you need to go slow.

If not today, there will come a day when you need to be more deliberate..more measured.

When the time comes…

Give yourself permission to do it.

Go slow with gusto!

Savor.
Enjoy.
Discover.
                                    And be grateful.

(Fast and hurried is highly overrated.)
